77th session of the United Nations General Assembly

The President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Catherine Colonna, and Chrysoula Zacharopoulou, Minister of State for Development, Francophonie and International Partnerships, will attend the High-level Week in New York.

A number of key moments will take place on the sidelines or as part of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, such as (list subject to change):

  • General Debate: from Tuesday, 20 September to Monday, 26 September;
  • Ministerial Summit for Information and Democracy;
  • Christchurch Summit on the fight against terrorist and violent extremist content online;
  • Ministerial Summit for Information and Democracy;
  • Ministerial meeting of the Security Council on Ukraine;

The General Assembly is the United Nations' main body for deliberations, policy preparation and representation. Made up of the 193 members of the United Nations, it is a multilateral forum for the international issues covered by the Charter of the United Nations.

France holds the monthly presidency of the United Nations Security Council for September 2022, when a large number of high-level meetings and events will be taking place in New York, involving travel to the United Nations by many Heads of State and Government members.

The work of this presidency will mainly focus on the fight against impunity in Ukraine.

The presidency of the Security Council also provides an opportunity to highlight priority issues for France, and in particular:

  • The crises in the Middle East, especially Syria, Yemen, the Near East and Libya;
  • Peace and security in Africa;
  • Peacekeeping operations, with a debate on peacekeeping reform.
