Q : What is your response to Hungary's decision to buy 700 million cubic meters of natural gas in addition to the amounts already stipulated in long-term contracts with Russia?

A : In view of Russia's blackmail on gas deliveries, in the context of its aggression against Ukraine, the EU decided at the Versailles summit hosted last March by the French presidency of the EU Council to progressively reduce its dependence on Russian gas, oil and coal imports as quickly as possible.
That is the goal of the European Commission proposals, specifically those contained in the RepowerEU plan, and it will be one of the major issues discussed by the EU energy ministers this Tuesday. We all share the overarching goal of strengthening strategic energy autonomy.
France is fully committed to finding a joint European response to the question of energy, in a spirit of unity and solidarity.
