In this episode of The Institute talks, we talk about green apprenticeships. We are joined by Judy Ling Wong and Lee Stanford.

Judy Ling Wong is an artist, painter and environmentalist, best known as the honorary president of Black Environment Network, who is proud to chair the panel.

Lee Sanford is the engineering training manager for National Express West Midlands looking at what can be done in terms of adding green apprenticeships and different technologies into the fleet.

The green apprenticeships advisory panel, launched last month, aimed to help put cleaner and greener apprenticeships front and centre of the UK's recovery from COVID-19. The panel will advise us on opportunities to make existing apprenticeships greener and identify new apprenticeships in emerging green occupations as well as highlighting the green apprenticeships we already have on offer.

The panel will also work closely with the Green Jobs Taskforce set up by the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and the Department for Education to develop an action plan for creating the necessary new green jobs and skills. This will allow apprentices and employers to play their role in getting the UK's carbon emissions to net-zero by 2050, in line with the government's target.

Within the podcast, you will learn about the panels plan and the importance of the apprenticeships, as Judy stated,

I think that green issues will become more and more important across apprenticeships and the wider world of work, and I really look forward to all of us contributing to a greener future.
